Bria & Mike’s Backyard Wedding in Abbotsford
September 11, 2018Kelly & Deanna’s Wedding in Fort Langley [Langley Wedding Photographers]
October 2, 2018This story starts back with Vas & Mike’s wedding a couple years ago at Manning Park. I had got in touch with Vas shortly before their wedding and wanted to know if any of her guests would be interested in a session up at Manning Park the night before their wedding, we were there anyway so we thought we might as well take advantage! Well, Cheryl & Brent were those people and their session was amaaaaazing. Now at the time they weren’t engaged, but Brent was visiting from Australia (where he was living for a couple years) and between you and me it was easy to say that they were not far from being engaged and had even hinted about it a little! ;)
So fast forward a year and Cheryl got in touch with me very quickly after things became official and asked me if I would be willing to come to Calgary for their wedding. Now to be honest, I’ve never really had the urge to travel to Calgary but I really loved getting to know them, I’m always up for an adventure and what IS near Calgary is Banff, Lake Louise, Lake Moraine, ahhh those places I adore! So we booked the day and had set the intention that I’d make a bit of a road trip out of it.
When I got to the week before their wedding I prepped for said road trip and it was amazing! I went camping with a few friends in Oosoyoos, then popped up to Lake Louise and photographed a previous couple at Moraine Lake (dream come true) for their Anniversary and then headed over to Calgary where I stayed with a good friend.
Now I knew that Cheryl & Brent’s wedding would be good because I had gotten to know them already, but being a place I hadn’t shot in before, not to mention I had only been to Calgary in the winter, provided me both with a bit of a tiny challenge and a big amount of excitement. Really, by this point we can show up and shoot pretty much anywhere, but having a bit of a surprise sneak attack made for this day to be awesome. Starting off with some getting ready at a very homey AirBNB, headed over to Riley Park in the Stone Ledge Garden for their wedding ceremony (shoutout to Vas & Mike who were there) and then to Prince’s Island Park for their main portraits. This park is an absolute gem in the middle of the city and I’m very glad we did their photos there – with every turn there was a great new place to take photos. Then we finished things off at Best Western Village Park Inn for their reception – which! I love when hotels surprise you with beautiful and interesting interiors – as this one did.
Okay, enough already, here’s the photos. Enjoy! :)
